Customized Treatment Plans

We focus on applying the principles of applied behavior analysis to individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, or other developmental disabilities.  We recognize that early childhood is a time of rapid growth and development and acknowledge the evidence supporting the impact of early intervention, however, are conscientious in recognizing that many individuals with ASD face challenges throughout their lives, and not just in early childhood.  With this, Galliant focuses on serving individuals across stages of the lifespan in a way that focuses on both the individual and their current set of experiences and expectations based on their age.

Early Childhood - Under 6

While the specifics of programming in early childhood is going to be different for each individual, it is in this age range that we are often focusing on foundational skills.  We aim to have the majority of programs embedded into the natural environment in a way that combines the evidence-based delivery of targets and programs with each child’s play and daily life.  Additionally, during this time we reference and recognize typical developmental milestones in order to work in a developmental progression that helps one skill build off of another.  We also do this to ensure that we are not holding a child to expectations that we would not have for others in their same age range.  Our balance here is working to assist each child in learning the skills needed to set them up for success, while also valuing and highlighting their ability to be a kid.

School Aged - 6 to pre-teen

Typically, in this age range the number of hours a child is receiving services may start to decrease as the number of hours spent at school increases.  We recognize this balance and work to use the time spent in ABA to focus on generalized areas for success.  While programs are individualized based on each child’s needs, the focus is often on building executive functioning skills such as organization, flexible thinking, planning and prioritizing, self-monitoring, and task initiation. Additionally, children in this age range are entering a new social stage in life.  With this, social expectations of peers begin to change.  We often focus on social skill development and early navigation of challenging social dilemmas in order to decrease challenges and increase interactions in the world around each individual.  Similar to those in early childhood, we work to embed as much as possible into the natural setting and work to immerse targets into conversation, game play, or other interests each child has.

Adolescence - Preteen and up

At Galliant we recognize that a lot of changes occur with every individual as they enter the teenage years.  With this, our adolescent years tend to focus on increasing social demands, relationships, hygiene, and a changing body. In addition to focusing on the challenging aspects of these changes for each individual, we work to support clients in expressing themselves, in whatever manner is beneficial to them, in order to decrease the challenging behaviors that the difficulties of these years can manifest.  Additionally, we continue to support social and executive functioning skills as well as individual needs and goals.  Similar to our school age range, we recognize that these years often bring an increase in school work expectations and involvement in other groups and programs, so we expect a decrease in direct hours during this time.  We continue though to focus on teaching generalizable skills, providing parent training, and embedding programming into interests and activities to make the most of the time one has to participate in ABA.
